Landscaping & gardening and Dundee homes
Dundee has sandstone tenements in the West End, Stobswell and the Hilltown, Victorian villas in Broughty Ferry and along the Perth Road, post-war council estates such as Fintry and Whitfield, and housing exposed to the wind off the Tay.
- Tenement back courts are usually shared, so get agreement from the other owners before changing them.
- Stone boundary walls are common round older houses. Repointing or rebuilding them is a specialist job worth mentioning up front.
- Larger gardens round older villas often need hedges, walls and drainage work as well as patios.
- Front gardens in ex-council estates are often turned into driveways. Check whether you'll need a dropped kerb.
- Salt-tolerant planting and well-fixed fencing last better on windy coastal plots.
Areas covered include West End, City Centre, Broughty Ferry, Lochee, Stobswell, Hilltown, Menzieshill, Whitfield, Fintry, Douglas, Barnhill, Ardler. Local authority: Dundee City Council.

How it works
- Tell us the job. Give a short description, your postcode and roughly when.
- We pass it to one local tradesperson who covers your area and does that kind of work. We pick one, not five, so your phone won't ring all day.
- They contact you to arrange a visit or a quote. You decide whether to go ahead.
To be upfront about what we are: we're an independent quote-request service, not a trade company. We don't vet, insure or guarantee anyone's work, so always get a written quote and check the registrations that apply to your job.
Questions
Does it cost me anything?
No. It's free for homeowners and tenants. Some tradespeople pay us a small fee for an introduction.
How many people will contact me?
One. We share your request with one local tradesperson only. If they can't help, we'll ask you before passing it to anyone else.
Which areas do you cover?
Dundee (DD1–DD5), including City Centre, Broughty Ferry, Lochee, Stobswell, Hilltown, Menzieshill. If we can't find someone suitable, we'll tell you honestly.
Do you check the tradespeople?
We only pass jobs to businesses with a public address or trading history, but we're not an accreditation scheme. For gas work, check the Gas Safe Register. For electrics, check SELECT, NICEIC or NAPIT. Dundee City Council Trading Standards can also advise on dealing with traders.
