Before you hire
Gas work and most electrical work should go to a registered tradesperson, not a general handyman.
What to know for your type of home
- Tenement flats: Tenement flats usually have high ceilings, so mention it if a job needs a tall ladder (for example lights or curtain poles).
- Older stone houses: Fixing into solid stone or old plaster needs the right plugs and drill bits, so mention the wall type for shelves or TV mounting.
- Granite houses: Drilling into granite needs a hammer drill and masonry bits. Mention the wall type for any fixing jobs.
- New-town homes: Plasterboard walls are common in newer homes, so heavy items need the right fixings or a stud.
- Victorian villas: High ceilings and old plaster walls mean the right fixings matter for shelves and curtain poles.
- New builds: Flat-pack, curtain poles and TV mounting are classic new-build jobs.
- Coastal and exposed homes: Gutters, door seals and draught-proofing are common small jobs on exposed homes.

How it works
- Tell us the job. Give a short description, your postcode and roughly when.
- We pass it to one local tradesperson who covers your area and does that kind of work. We pick one, not five, so your phone won't ring all day.
- They contact you to arrange a visit or a quote. You decide whether to go ahead.
To be upfront about what we are: we're an independent quote-request service, not a trade company. We don't vet, insure or guarantee anyone's work, so always get a written quote and check the registrations that apply to your job.
Questions
Does it cost me anything?
No. It's free for homeowners and tenants. Some tradespeople pay us a small fee for an introduction.
How many people will contact me?
One. We share your request with one local tradesperson only. If they can't help, we'll ask you before passing it to anyone else.
Which areas do you cover?
Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Inverness, Perth, Stirling and 18 more Scottish towns, listed below. If we can't find someone suitable, we'll tell you honestly.
Do you check the tradespeople?
We only pass jobs to businesses with a public address or trading history, but we're not an accreditation scheme. For gas work, check the Gas Safe Register. For electrics, check SELECT, NICEIC or NAPIT. Your local council's Trading Standards team can also advise.
Can I delete my details?
