Common jobs
- Patios and slabbing
- Monoblock and tarmac driveways
- Fencing and walls
- Turf and artificial grass
- Garden tidy-ups and maintenance
Before you hire
A new or wider driveway may need a dropped kerb, which means permission from your local council as roads authority. Check before work starts.
What to know for your type of home
- Tenement flats: Tenement back courts are usually shared, so get agreement from the other owners before changing them.
- Older stone houses: Stone boundary walls are common round older houses. Repointing or rebuilding them is a specialist job worth mentioning up front.
- Granite houses: Granite setts and walls are common in older gardens and driveways, and they can often be relaid or reused.
- New-town homes: New-town terraces often have small front and back gardens, which suit low-maintenance slabbing, monoblock and artificial grass.
- Victorian villas: Larger gardens round older villas often need hedges, walls and drainage work as well as patios.
- New builds: New-build gardens are often left as basic turf on compacted soil, so drainage, patios and fencing are common first jobs.
- Coastal and exposed homes: Salt-tolerant planting and well-fixed fencing last better on windy coastal plots.

How it works
- Tell us the job. Give a short description, your postcode and roughly when.
- We pass it to one local tradesperson who covers your area and does that kind of work. We pick one, not five, so your phone won't ring all day.
- They contact you to arrange a visit or a quote. You decide whether to go ahead.
To be upfront about what we are: we're an independent quote-request service, not a trade company. We don't vet, insure or guarantee anyone's work, so always get a written quote and check the registrations that apply to your job.
Questions
Does it cost me anything?
No. It's free for homeowners and tenants. Some tradespeople pay us a small fee for an introduction.
How many people will contact me?
One. We share your request with one local tradesperson only. If they can't help, we'll ask you before passing it to anyone else.
Which areas do you cover?
Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Inverness, Perth, Stirling and 18 more Scottish towns, listed below. If we can't find someone suitable, we'll tell you honestly.
Do you check the tradespeople?
We only pass jobs to businesses with a public address or trading history, but we're not an accreditation scheme. For gas work, check the Gas Safe Register. For electrics, check SELECT, NICEIC or NAPIT. Your local council's Trading Standards team can also advise.
Can I delete my details?
Yes. Email c243house@outlook.com and we'll delete them. See the privacy notice.
