What to know for your type of home
- Tenement flats: Tenement roofs and gutters are usually common repairs shared between owners. A roofer can quote for the block, and the owners or factor normally agree the split.
- Older stone houses: Older stone houses in Scotland are usually roofed with natural slate. Matching slate and good leadwork matter for repairs.
- Granite houses: Granite houses are usually roofed in natural slate, often with dormers, which need careful leadwork to stay watertight.
- New-town homes: New-town housing has a mix of concrete-tile pitched roofs and flat roofs, so mention which type you have.
- Victorian villas: Villas often have complex slate roofs with valleys, dormers and chimneys, and the leadwork needs regular checking.
- New builds: Newer homes mostly have concrete-tile roofs, and the common jobs are ridge, verge and gutter repairs.
- Coastal and exposed homes: Wind and driving rain off the water make slipped slates, ridge and flashing problems more common, so book an inspection after big storms.

How it works
- Tell us the job. Give a short description, your postcode and roughly when.
- We pass it to one local tradesperson who covers your area and does that kind of work. We pick one, not five, so your phone won't ring all day.
- They contact you to arrange a visit or a quote. You decide whether to go ahead.
To be upfront about what we are: we're an independent quote-request service, not a trade company. We don't vet, insure or guarantee anyone's work, so always get a written quote and check the registrations that apply to your job.
Questions
Does it cost me anything?
No. It's free for homeowners and tenants. Some tradespeople pay us a small fee for an introduction.
How many people will contact me?
One. We share your request with one local tradesperson only. If they can't help, we'll ask you before passing it to anyone else.
Which areas do you cover?
Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Inverness, Perth, Stirling and 18 more Scottish towns, listed below. If we can't find someone suitable, we'll tell you honestly.
Do you check the tradespeople?
We only pass jobs to businesses with a public address or trading history, but we're not an accreditation scheme. For gas work, check the Gas Safe Register. For electrics, check SELECT, NICEIC or NAPIT. Your local council's Trading Standards team can also advise.
Can I delete my details?
