Anyone working on a gas boiler or gas appliance must be on the Gas Safe Register. Check their ID card at gassaferegister.co.uk.

What to know for your type of home

Tenement flats: In tenements, a leak can quickly reach the flat below. Mention whether you're in a flat and which floor, and where your stopcock is if you know.
Older stone houses: Older stone properties often have a mix of old and new pipework. Mention if you've seen any lead pipes.
Granite houses: Older granite properties often have old pipework hidden in thick walls. Mention the age of the house when you describe the job.
New-town homes: Many new-town houses were built with combi or system boilers that are now reaching the end of their life.
Victorian villas: Larger older houses can have long pipe runs and big radiators, so a power flush or system upgrade may help with uneven heating.
New builds: In newer homes, check whether the boiler or system is still under the builder's or manufacturer's warranty before calling a plumber.
Coastal and exposed homes: Exposed homes lose heat faster, so a well-balanced heating system and good controls make a difference.

They contact you to arrange a visit or a quote. You decide whether to go ahead.

To be upfront about what we are: we're an independent quote-request service, not a trade company. We don't vet, insure or guarantee anyone's work, so always get a written quote and check the registrations that apply to your job.

Does it cost me anything?

No. It's free for homeowners and tenants. Some tradespeople pay us a small fee for an introduction.

How many people will contact me?

One. We share your request with one local tradesperson only. If they can't help, we'll ask you before passing it to anyone else.

Which areas do you cover?

Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Inverness, Perth, Stirling and 18 more Scottish towns, listed below. If we can't find someone suitable, we'll tell you honestly.

Do you check the tradespeople?

We only pass jobs to businesses with a public address or trading history, but we're not an accreditation scheme. For gas work, check the Gas Safe Register. For electrics, check SELECT, NICEIC or NAPIT. Your local council's Trading Standards team can also advise.

Can I delete my details?
