What to know for your type of home
- Tenement flats: Tenement flats often have original panelled doors, skirtings and shutters that are worth repairing rather than replacing.
- Older stone houses: Older stone homes often have original timber sash windows, doors and skirtings that a joiner can repair.
- Granite houses: Granite houses often keep original timber stairs, doors and windows that a joiner can repair.
- New-town homes: Fencing, internal doors and kitchen refits are common jobs in new-town terraces and semis.
- Victorian villas: Period villas often have original staircases, panelled doors and sash windows that are worth repairing.
- New builds: Built-in wardrobes, media walls, decking and fencing are popular jobs in newer houses.
- Coastal and exposed homes: Exposed timber such as fences, decking and fascias takes a battering near the coast, so ask about treated or composite options.

How it works
- Tell us the job. Give a short description, your postcode and roughly when.
- We pass it to one local tradesperson who covers your area and does that kind of work. We pick one, not five, so your phone won't ring all day.
- They contact you to arrange a visit or a quote. You decide whether to go ahead.
To be upfront about what we are: we're an independent quote-request service, not a trade company. We don't vet, insure or guarantee anyone's work, so always get a written quote and check the registrations that apply to your job.
Questions
Does it cost me anything?
No. It's free for homeowners and tenants. Some tradespeople pay us a small fee for an introduction.
How many people will contact me?
One. We share your request with one local tradesperson only. If they can't help, we'll ask you before passing it to anyone else.
Which areas do you cover?
Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Inverness, Perth, Stirling and 18 more Scottish towns, listed below. If we can't find someone suitable, we'll tell you honestly.
Do you check the tradespeople?
We only pass jobs to businesses with a public address or trading history, but we're not an accreditation scheme. For gas work, check the Gas Safe Register. For electrics, check SELECT, NICEIC or NAPIT. Your local council's Trading Standards team can also advise.
Can I delete my details?
Yes. Email c243house@outlook.com and we'll delete them. See the privacy notice.
