What to know for your type of home
- Tenement flats: Tenement flats often have a main door entry system plus your own door locks. Say which one needs work.
- Older stone houses: Older timber front doors often have mortice and rim locks. Ask about adding a British Standard lock if you're insuring the house.
- Granite houses: Older timber front doors often have mortice and rim locks. Ask about a British Standard lock for insurance.
- New-town homes: uPVC doors from the 1980s–90s often have multi-point mechanisms that wear out, and replacing euro cylinders with anti-snap ones is a common upgrade.
- Victorian villas: Older front doors often need mortice locks that meet British Standard BS3621 for insurance.
- New builds: New-build front doors usually have multi-point locks, and anti-snap cylinders are a cheap upgrade.
- Coastal and exposed homes: Salt air can stiffen locks and hinges, so regular lubrication or stainless hardware helps.

How it works
- Tell us the job. Give a short description, your postcode and roughly when.
- We pass it to one local tradesperson who covers your area and does that kind of work. We pick one, not five, so your phone won't ring all day.
- They contact you to arrange a visit or a quote. You decide whether to go ahead.
To be upfront about what we are: we're an independent quote-request service, not a trade company. We don't vet, insure or guarantee anyone's work, so always get a written quote and check the registrations that apply to your job.
Questions
Does it cost me anything?
No. It's free for homeowners and tenants. Some tradespeople pay us a small fee for an introduction.
How many people will contact me?
One. We share your request with one local tradesperson only. If they can't help, we'll ask you before passing it to anyone else.
Which areas do you cover?
Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Inverness, Perth, Stirling and 18 more Scottish towns, listed below. If we can't find someone suitable, we'll tell you honestly.
Do you check the tradespeople?
We only pass jobs to businesses with a public address or trading history, but we're not an accreditation scheme. For gas work, check the Gas Safe Register. For electrics, check SELECT, NICEIC or NAPIT. Your local council's Trading Standards team can also advise.
Can I delete my details?
Yes. Email c243house@outlook.com and we'll delete them. See the privacy notice.
