Before you hire
Ask whether the price includes underlay, lifting the old flooring and trims at doorways.
What to know for your type of home
- Tenement flats: Many tenement title deeds or factors restrict hard flooring because of noise to the flat below. Check before laying laminate or wood, and ask about acoustic underlay.
- Older stone houses: Older houses often have timber floorboards that can be sanded and refinished instead of being covered.
- Granite houses: Many older granite homes have timber floorboards that can be sanded and refinished.
- New-town homes: Concrete ground floors are common in homes from this era, so ask the fitter about levelling and moisture before laying wood or LVT.
- Victorian villas: Original timber floorboards in period houses can often be sanded rather than covered.
- New builds: New builds are often handed over with no flooring, so whole-house LVT, laminate or carpet quotes are common.
- Coastal and exposed homes: Ground floors on exposed sites can be cold, so ask about underlay and insulation options.

How it works
- Tell us the job. Give a short description, your postcode and roughly when.
- We pass it to one local tradesperson who covers your area and does that kind of work. We pick one, not five, so your phone won't ring all day.
- They contact you to arrange a visit or a quote. You decide whether to go ahead.
To be upfront about what we are: we're an independent quote-request service, not a trade company. We don't vet, insure or guarantee anyone's work, so always get a written quote and check the registrations that apply to your job.
Questions
Does it cost me anything?
No. It's free for homeowners and tenants. Some tradespeople pay us a small fee for an introduction.
How many people will contact me?
One. We share your request with one local tradesperson only. If they can't help, we'll ask you before passing it to anyone else.
Which areas do you cover?
Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Inverness, Perth, Stirling and 18 more Scottish towns, listed below. If we can't find someone suitable, we'll tell you honestly.
Do you check the tradespeople?
We only pass jobs to businesses with a public address or trading history, but we're not an accreditation scheme. For gas work, check the Gas Safe Register. For electrics, check SELECT, NICEIC or NAPIT. Your local council's Trading Standards team can also advise.
Can I delete my details?
Yes. Email c243house@outlook.com and we'll delete them. See the privacy notice.
