Common jobs
- Replacement uPVC, aluminium or timber windows
- Composite and uPVC front/back doors
- Misted or blown double-glazed units
- Handles, hinges, locks and draughts
Before you hire
If your home is listed or in a conservation area, changing windows usually needs consent from your local council, and like-for-like timber or sash repairs may be expected. Check before you order.
What to know for your type of home
- Tenement flats: In tenement flats, the look of the windows can affect the whole building. Some factors or title deeds specify the style or colour, and sash-and-case windows are common in older blocks.
- Older stone houses: Older stone houses often have deep window reveals and timber sash windows. It's worth asking whether repair and draught-proofing is an option as well as replacement.
- Granite houses: Granite houses and tenements have deep reveals and often timber sash windows. A fitter who knows granite openings will make a neater job.
- New-town homes: Many new-town homes still have first-generation double glazing from the 1980s and 1990s, so replacement units and doors are common jobs.
- Victorian villas: Victorian and Edwardian villas often have large bay windows and original front doors with stained glass that are worth preserving.
- New builds: Newer homes usually have modern double glazing, so most jobs are failed seals, handles or door upgrades rather than full replacements.
- Coastal and exposed homes: Exposed coastal and windy sites are harder on window seals and hinges, so ask about hardware rated for exposure.

How it works
- Tell us the job. Give a short description, your postcode and roughly when.
- We pass it to one local tradesperson who covers your area and does that kind of work. We pick one, not five, so your phone won't ring all day.
- They contact you to arrange a visit or a quote. You decide whether to go ahead.
To be upfront about what we are: we're an independent quote-request service, not a trade company. We don't vet, insure or guarantee anyone's work, so always get a written quote and check the registrations that apply to your job.
Questions
Does it cost me anything?
No. It's free for homeowners and tenants. Some tradespeople pay us a small fee for an introduction.
How many people will contact me?
One. We share your request with one local tradesperson only. If they can't help, we'll ask you before passing it to anyone else.
Which areas do you cover?
Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Inverness, Perth, Stirling and 18 more Scottish towns, listed below. If we can't find someone suitable, we'll tell you honestly.
Do you check the tradespeople?
We only pass jobs to businesses with a public address or trading history, but we're not an accreditation scheme. For gas work, check the Gas Safe Register. For electrics, check SELECT, NICEIC or NAPIT. Your local council's Trading Standards team can also advise.
Can I delete my details?
Yes. Email c243house@outlook.com and we'll delete them. See the privacy notice.
