Common jobs
- Painting a room or whole house
- Wallpapering
- Woodwork, doors and skirting
- Exterior painting and masonry
Before you hire
Ask whether the price includes paint and materials, and how many coats they're allowing for.
What to know for your type of home
- Tenement flats: Tall ceilings and cornicing in tenement flats take longer to paint, so expect quotes to reflect ceiling height.
- Older stone houses: Stonework and older plaster can need breathable paints. Ask your decorator what they'd recommend on solid walls.
- Granite houses: Granite itself shouldn't normally be painted. Ask about suitable products for render, woodwork and interior plaster.
- New-town homes: Homes from this era often have artex ceilings and woodchip paper, which affect preparation time.
- Victorian villas: High ceilings and period woodwork take more preparation, so ask for a room-by-room quote.
- New builds: New-build walls often need a mist coat over fresh plaster before the first proper paint job.
- Coastal and exposed homes: Exterior paint on exposed coastal homes weathers faster, so ask about masonry paints made for exposed sites.

How it works
- Tell us the job. Give a short description, your postcode and roughly when.
- We pass it to one local tradesperson who covers your area and does that kind of work. We pick one, not five, so your phone won't ring all day.
- They contact you to arrange a visit or a quote. You decide whether to go ahead.
To be upfront about what we are: we're an independent quote-request service, not a trade company. We don't vet, insure or guarantee anyone's work, so always get a written quote and check the registrations that apply to your job.
Questions
Does it cost me anything?
No. It's free for homeowners and tenants. Some tradespeople pay us a small fee for an introduction.
How many people will contact me?
One. We share your request with one local tradesperson only. If they can't help, we'll ask you before passing it to anyone else.
Which areas do you cover?
Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Inverness, Perth, Stirling and 18 more Scottish towns, listed below. If we can't find someone suitable, we'll tell you honestly.
Do you check the tradespeople?
We only pass jobs to businesses with a public address or trading history, but we're not an accreditation scheme. For gas work, check the Gas Safe Register. For electrics, check SELECT, NICEIC or NAPIT. Your local council's Trading Standards team can also advise.
Can I delete my details?
Yes. Email c243house@outlook.com and we'll delete them. See the privacy notice.
