Painting & decorating and Aberdeen homes
Aberdeen is the 'Granite City': most older houses and tenements in Rosemount, Ferryhill and the West End are built of grey granite, with council housing in areas like Mastrick and Northfield and plenty of newer estates around Bridge of Don, Dyce and Cove.
- Granite itself shouldn't normally be painted. Ask about suitable products for render, woodwork and interior plaster.
- Tall ceilings and cornicing in tenement flats take longer to paint, so expect quotes to reflect ceiling height.
- Common closes in flats are usually painted by arrangement among all owners, while inside your flat is up to you.
- New-build walls often need a mist coat over fresh plaster before the first proper paint job.
- Exterior paint on exposed coastal homes weathers faster, so ask about masonry paints made for exposed sites.
Areas covered include Rosemount, Ferryhill, Old Aberdeen, Torry, Kincorth, Bridge of Don, Dyce, Cults, Mastrick, Northfield, Garthdee, Cove Bay. Local authority: Aberdeen City Council.

How it works
- Tell us the job. Give a short description, your postcode and roughly when.
- We pass it to one local tradesperson who covers your area and does that kind of work. We pick one, not five, so your phone won't ring all day.
- They contact you to arrange a visit or a quote. You decide whether to go ahead.
To be upfront about what we are: we're an independent quote-request service, not a trade company. We don't vet, insure or guarantee anyone's work, so always get a written quote and check the registrations that apply to your job.
Questions
Does it cost me anything?
No. It's free for homeowners and tenants. Some tradespeople pay us a small fee for an introduction.
How many people will contact me?
One. We share your request with one local tradesperson only. If they can't help, we'll ask you before passing it to anyone else.
