Electrician and Edinburgh homes
Edinburgh's housing ranges from the Georgian terraces and flats of the New Town (part of the Old and New Towns UNESCO World Heritage Site) and Victorian tenements in Marchmont and Leith, to the stone 'colonies' terraces, interwar bungalows in Corstorphine and newer estates on the city edges.
- Older tenement flats often still have dated wiring and consumer units. An EICR is a sensible first step before a sale or let.
- Solid stone walls make chasing in new cables harder, so rewires in older stone houses can take longer than in modern homes.
- In listed buildings, visible alterations such as external lights, cameras or EV chargers may need consent from City of Edinburgh Council.
- Larger older houses may have been partly rewired over the years, so an EICR helps work out what really needs doing.
- Newer homes often want EV chargers, garden power and extra sockets added to an otherwise modern installation.
Areas covered include Old Town, New Town, Leith, Stockbridge, Morningside, Bruntsfield, Marchmont, Portobello, Corstorphine, Gorgie, Craigentinny, Gilmerton. Local authority: City of Edinburgh Council.

How it works
- Tell us the job. Give a short description, your postcode and roughly when.
- We pass it to one local tradesperson who covers your area and does that kind of work. We pick one, not five, so your phone won't ring all day.
- They contact you to arrange a visit or a quote. You decide whether to go ahead.
To be upfront about what we are: we're an independent quote-request service, not a trade company. We don't vet, insure or guarantee anyone's work, so always get a written quote and check the registrations that apply to your job.
Questions
Does it cost me anything?
No. It's free for homeowners and tenants. Some tradespeople pay us a small fee for an introduction.
How many people will contact me?
One. We share your request with one local tradesperson only. If they can't help, we'll ask you before passing it to anyone else.
Which areas do you cover?
Edinburgh (EH1–EH17), including New Town, Leith, Stockbridge, Morningside, Bruntsfield, Marchmont. If we can't find someone suitable, we'll tell you honestly.
Do you check the tradespeople?
We only pass jobs to businesses with a public address or trading history, but we're not an accreditation scheme. For gas work, check the Gas Safe Register. For electrics, check SELECT, NICEIC or NAPIT. City of Edinburgh Council Trading Standards can also advise on dealing with traders.
Can I delete my details?
