Windows & doors and Aberdeen homes
Aberdeen is the 'Granite City': most older houses and tenements in Rosemount, Ferryhill and the West End are built of grey granite, with council housing in areas like Mastrick and Northfield and plenty of newer estates around Bridge of Don, Dyce and Cove.
- Granite houses and tenements have deep reveals and often timber sash windows. A fitter who knows granite openings will make a neater job.
- In tenement flats, the look of the windows can affect the whole building. Some factors or title deeds specify the style or colour, and sash-and-case windows are common in older blocks.
- In ex-council flats, the housing association or council may still own some neighbouring flats, and a factor may set rules for windows and doors in shared closes.
- Newer homes usually have modern double glazing, so most jobs are failed seals, handles or door upgrades rather than full replacements.
- Exposed coastal and windy sites are harder on window seals and hinges, so ask about hardware rated for exposure.
Areas covered include Rosemount, Ferryhill, Old Aberdeen, Torry, Kincorth, Bridge of Don, Dyce, Cults, Mastrick, Northfield, Garthdee, Cove Bay. Local authority: Aberdeen City Council.

How it works
- Tell us the job. Give a short description, your postcode and roughly when.
- We pass it to one local tradesperson who covers your area and does that kind of work. We pick one, not five, so your phone won't ring all day.
- They contact you to arrange a visit or a quote. You decide whether to go ahead.
To be upfront about what we are: we're an independent quote-request service, not a trade company. We don't vet, insure or guarantee anyone's work, so always get a written quote and check the registrations that apply to your job.
Questions
Does it cost me anything?
No. It's free for homeowners and tenants. Some tradespeople pay us a small fee for an introduction.
How many people will contact me?
One. We share your request with one local tradesperson only. If they can't help, we'll ask you before passing it to anyone else.
Which areas do you cover?
Aberdeen (AB10–AB16, AB21–AB25), including Ferryhill, Old Aberdeen, Torry, Kincorth, Bridge of Don, Dyce. If we can't find someone suitable, we'll tell you honestly.
Do you check the tradespeople?
We only pass jobs to businesses with a public address or trading history, but we're not an accreditation scheme. For gas work, check the Gas Safe Register. For electrics, check SELECT, NICEIC or NAPIT. Aberdeen City Council Trading Standards can also advise on dealing with traders.
Can I delete my details?
